Throughout the past few months in our blog, we have discussed Blockchain and some of it’s applications that are used on a daily basis such as Smart Contract. Can we confirm that we can stop cybersecurity with this technology?

To celebrate ‘Cyber Security Awareness Month,’ we are going to explain how Blockchain Technology could be a key tool in the prevention of hackers.

Reality or Fiction?

A cyber attack is a computer attack during which a hacker takes control, destabilizes or damages a technological system. All types of companies are affected by this, not only the big corporations. If an organisation is not protected with cybersecurity, they have to face the fact that the personal data of their clients could be revealed or manipulated by third parties for lucrative purposes.

According to the survey ‘The Growing Threat of Mobile Device Security Breaches”, 64% of companies have doubts regarding cybersecurity protocols. Furthermore, 94% believe that the attacks will grow during the next few years.

So, what can we do about it? In the past few months, solutions based on Blockchain technology have emerged and they promise to offer us new surprises in the sector.

Why is Blockchain a good option for a company’s cybersecurity?

On one hand, regarding identity protection, the publication of public keys in Blockchain eliminates the risk of spreading false keys. This makes it easier for applications such as WhatsApp to verify the identity of the contacts with which a user would communicate.

It should also be noted that it is a really appealing option when it comes to protecting user data. They are able to achieve this thanks to features such as the incorruptibility and transparency of Blockchain. It allows us to offer integral and realistic information to each and every one of our clients.

Finally, we want to highlight the use of this technology in applications related to Internet of Things. Thanks to Blockchain and the Smart Contacts in IoT, the devices gain autonomy and reliability. By doing this, they eliminate the need for a centralised mediating entity that identifies them and unites their data.
